Booking Spring Installs: How Trade Projects Stay on Schedule

Spring is the busiest stretch of the year for custom window treatments in Colorado. Renovations that started over the winter reach finish stage, new builds hit substantial completion, and every designer on the Front Range wants the same two weeks of install calendar. The projects that land on time are almost never the ones that ordered first. They are the ones that sequenced correctly.

Work backward from the install date, not forward from the order

Set the client-facing reveal date first, then subtract install, then fabrication, then fabric transit, then final measure. A typical drapery program needs four to six weeks in the workroom after fabric lands. Fabric transit from a domestic mill runs three to ten business days, and cut yardage from a European house can take three weeks or longer. Final measure should happen after drywall, paint, and flooring are complete, which means the measure date is controlled by the general contractor, not by you.

The three checkpoints that decide whether spring works

    • Fabric approval. Nothing enters the production queue until yardage is confirmed and reserved. Memo approvals are not reservations.
    • Final measure. Ordering from architectural drawings is the single most common cause of remakes. Openings move.
    • Hardware and power. Motorized treatments need power confirmed before the head rail is fabricated. A hardwired motor with no rough-in becomes a change order.

Build a buffer that clients never see

Quote the client two weeks beyond your internal target. Backorders, dye lot substitutions, and site delays are normal, not exceptional. A buffer absorbs them quietly. Without one, every mill delay becomes a conversation about your reliability.

Stage installs by room, not by product

Installing all hardware in one visit and all panels in another doubles trips and doubles risk. Complete rooms. A finished primary suite photographs well, reassures the client, and gives the trades still working downstairs room to operate.

    Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should spring installs be booked? Reserve workroom capacity eight to twelve weeks before the target install date, even if fabric is not final.

Can final measure happen before flooring? No. Floor height changes finished length, and hard surface versus carpet can shift a panel by an inch or more.

What happens if the site is not ready on install day? Reschedule rather than install into an active work zone. Treatments hung around painters get damaged.

Roseworks Fabrication works from your schedule, not ours. Send the target reveal date and we will build the production calendar around it.
