Trade Pricing, COM Policies, and How to Get Started with Roseworks

    Roseworks Fabrication··7 min read

Trade relationships in custom fabrication are built on clarity. Clear pricing. Clear policies. Clear expectations on both sides of the workroom partnership. When those structures are vague, trade relationships become exhausting. Every project requires renegotiation. Every COM shipment becomes a question about liability. Every new team member at the design firm has to relearn the rules from scratch.

Roseworks Fabrication publishes its trade terms so that designers, architects, and builders can evaluate the partnership without guesswork. This post covers the pricing structure for trade accounts, the policies that govern COM fabrication, and the onboarding process for new trade partners starting work with Roseworks.

If you are a trade professional evaluating whether Roseworks is the right workroom for your firm, this is the ground-level detail you need. For the broader framework on workroom partnerships, see the Interior Designer''s Guide to Partnering with a Custom Fabrication Workroom.

    Trade Pricing Structure

Roseworks operates as a wholesale fabrication workroom. Trade pricing applies to verified interior designers, architects, builders, general contractors, and allied trade professionals working on projects for their clients.

Pricing is structured around three components: fabrication labor, hardware, and project services such as measurement and installation coordination when those are part of scope.

Fabrication labor is quoted per panel or per treatment based on construction type, finished dimensions, lining type, and any custom finishing details. Standard pinch pleat drapery has a different labor rate than a custom cornice with upholstered detailing. Roman shades are priced based on style, lift system, and mount type. Upholstery is priced based on the piece, fabric yardage required, and condition of the frame.

Hardware is quoted separately from fabrication labor. Roseworks sources hardware from a range of premium drapery hardware manufacturers and passes trade pricing through to the trade partner. Hardware line items are itemized on the quote so the designer can see exactly what is being specified and what it costs.

Project services include measurement visits, templating, installation coordination, and post-installation troubleshooting when those are part of the agreed scope. Some designers handle measurement and installation internally and only use Roseworks for fabrication and hardware. Others contract the full stack. Pricing adjusts accordingly.

Trade pricing is honored across all projects once the trade account is established. There are no minimums. A designer who sends one project a year receives the same fabrication pricing as a designer who sends forty.

    COM Fabrication Policies

COM, customer-owned material, refers to fabric that the designer sources directly and ships to the workroom for fabrication. Most custom residential projects involve some COM because premium fabrics are typically specified through the designer''s showroom relationships rather than purchased through the workroom.

Roseworks accepts COM fabric for all soft goods fabrication: drapery, roman shades, valances, cornices, pillows, bedding, and upholstery. The policies below govern how COM is handled through the fabrication process.

Fabric inspection on receipt. Every COM shipment is inspected on arrival. The inspection verifies yardage against the specified requirement, checks for dye lot consistency across bolts, and flags any flaws or damage. If issues are identified, the designer is notified before cutting begins. This step is part of how Roseworks supports trade professionals from specification to install.

Yardage calculation responsibility. Roseworks provides yardage calculations for the specified treatments based on fabric width, pattern repeat, and header style. The designer or showroom orders fabric based on these calculations. If ordered yardage is short, Roseworks will notify the designer and offer options, including ordering supplemental yardage (with dye lot risk disclosed) or adjusting the specification to fit available material.

Pattern matching and repeats. Pattern repeats add yardage and complexity. Roseworks calculates repeat requirements during yardage quoting and flags treatments where pattern alignment across panels is achievable versus approximate. Designers make the final call on pattern matching preferences.

Fabric storage. COM fabric is stored in the Roseworks workroom from receipt through project completion. Storage is included in the fabrication pricing. For projects with extended timelines or multiple phases, Roseworks stores phased material and coordinates fabrication with the designer''s project schedule.

Liability and insurance. Roseworks carries workroom insurance covering fabric in the facility. In the rare event of damage during fabrication, Roseworks covers the cost of replacement yardage. For shipping damage that occurs before fabric arrives at the workroom, the designer or shipping carrier is responsible.

Fabric returns and excess yardage. Any fabric remaining after fabrication is returned to the designer with the finished project. Roseworks does not retain COM yardage unless explicitly agreed for use on future phases of the same project.

    Roseworks-Sourced Fabric Option

For designers who prefer to source fabric through the workroom rather than managing COM directly, Roseworks can source from a range of trade fabric suppliers. This option simplifies procurement, reduces shipping coordination, and consolidates the project under a single invoice.

Trade pricing on fabric sourced through Roseworks is passed through at the same wholesale rate the designer would receive directly. Roseworks does not mark up fabric beyond standard workroom handling, which is typically less than the shipping and handling cost of COM fabrication. This is one of the operational reasons designers choose a local fabrication workroom over national manufacturers.

This option is particularly useful for builders and GCs who may not have direct fabric showroom relationships but still need premium custom treatments for their projects.

    Payment Terms for Trade Accounts

Standard trade payment terms require a 50% deposit to initiate fabrication, with the balance due upon completion before the finished product leaves the workroom. Payment options include ACH, wire transfer, and credit card (with a standard processing fee for credit card payments on larger invoices).

For established trade accounts with consistent project history, net-30 payment terms can be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. New trade accounts typically operate on the standard 50% deposit structure until sufficient project history is established.

All pricing and terms are documented in writing on every quote. There are no verbal side agreements or undocumented upcharges.

    Trade Account Onboarding Process

Starting a trade account with Roseworks is a straightforward process designed to move quickly.

Step one: Submit trade credentials. New trade partners verify their trade status by submitting business credentials. For interior designers, this typically includes a business license, resale certificate if applicable, and references from active projects or trade organization membership such as ASID, IIDA, or IDS. For architects and builders, professional licensing and business documentation is sufficient.

Step two: Initial conversation. Once trade status is verified, the Roseworks team schedules an initial conversation to understand the firm''s project types, typical specifications, volume expectations, and preferred communication patterns. This conversation also gives the trade partner a chance to ask questions about capabilities, timelines, and any specific requirements for their practice.

Step three: Workroom visit (optional). Trade partners are invited to visit the Westminster workroom to tour the facility, meet the fabrication team, and see representative work. Read more about the workroom and team. This visit is optional but recommended for firms that will be moving significant production volume to Roseworks.

Step four: First project quote. With the trade account established, the first project quote can be submitted. Roseworks returns quotes within 48 hours of receiving complete specifications.

Step five: Ongoing partnership. Once the first project completes successfully, the trade partnership is active. Future projects move through the same workflow without re-establishing credentials or payment terms.

What Makes a Trade Partnership Work Long-Term

Beyond pricing and policies, long-term trade partnerships are built on operational reliability. The partnerships that last a decade or more share a few characteristics that designers consistently identify as the determining factor in workroom selection.

The workroom returns quotes quickly and accurately. Response time matters as much as price because timeline confidence is what lets designers build client proposals.

The workroom flags problems before they become the designer''s problem. A spec review that catches a fullness error before fabrication protects the designer from explaining a mistake to a client after installation.

The workroom communicates proactively during production. No news is not good news on a three-week fabrication timeline. Regular status updates let the designer plan the downstream project phases.

The workroom stands behind its work. When something needs to be corrected, the workroom corrects it without pushing cost or blame onto the designer.

Roseworks Fabrication is structured to deliver on all four. For designers, architects, and builders who are evaluating Roseworks as a fabrication partner, the process starts with a single email or call. Request a trade account and the onboarding conversation will begin within 48 hours.
